Darlington’s fine arts department will present two exciting shows this week – one focused on choral music and the other on drama.
Visitors can hear “Songs for a New World” May 2 and 5. The production features a variety of musical numbers performed by Caroline Baker, Ben Cantrell, Katherine Eid, Garrett Henderson, Ross Langley, Elexene Mattingly, Emily Morrow, Caitlin Murray, Logan O’Riley and Ashley Udell.
“This is a great show that showcases some of our strongest voices, many of whom are graduating seniors,” said Dan Bishop, chairman of the fine arts department. “Come out and support these students in one of their final performances at Darlington. It’s something you will not want to miss.”
On May 4 and 6, drama students will perform the works of David Mamet and Sam Shepard, two award-winning and influential American playwrights, in a show called “Everyday Heroes.” In this production, student actors mix and match roles and scenes into a tapestry of everyday heroism. They are Bonnie Blumetti, Isabel Bonnyman, Ryan Gaffney, Logan O’Riley, Daniel Powell, Stephanie Schecter and Andrew Smith.
“’Everyday Heroes’ is a collection of short scenes and sketches showing everyday people of all types vigorously trying to be the heroes of their own movies,” said David Powell, director and chairman of the English department. “Some scenes are comical, some serious, and some are studied meditations on the choices we make and the relationships we nurture.”
All shows start at 8 p.m. in Zelle Drama Room, located on the Upper School campus. Admission is free.
