Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Marlowe Brant the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for February.

Brant, who has attended Darlington since first grade, is in the top 10 percent of her class of 139. She has a 96+ average, 13 honors and AP credits, and is a member of the Cum Laude Society, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, the National Society of High School Scholars, the Quill and Scroll National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

At Darlington, Brant serves as vice president of the “Y” Cabinet and religious life liaison for Thornwood House. She received the Parents Association Award in 2005 and is also a member of Leadership Council, Amnesty International, IMPACT, the Student Support Team, Spanish Club, the Environmental Awareness Club, Ladies’ Chorale, Concert Choir and The Inkslinger staff. Brant works one hour a week in the College Guidance Office and is a tour guide for the Admission Office.

Outside of Darlington, Brant has participated in the Brenau Firespark program for two summers. She has also taken courses at Cambridge College in Cambridge, England, and attended the Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine at Emory University. Brant has been named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students and is a Wofford Scholar. In her spare time, she volunteers at the Boys & Girls Club and teaches Spanish to children.

“Marlowe is truly one of our most outstanding seniors,” said Sally Rudert (’66T), assistant director of Upper School. “She is passionate in her desire to share information and enlist support for human rights causes, and has worked hard to promote awareness of Darfur genocide.”

Brant was honored Feb. 26 by Noon Optimist Club. During the presentation, she gave a talk on Darfur. She is the daughter of Dr. Jeff and Nancy Brant of Kingston, Ga.
