Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Fatema Bandukwala the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for April.
Bandukwala, ranked No. 52 in her class of 123, has a GPA of 89.70 with four honors and three AP credits. While at Darlington, she has received the Parents Association Award, been a member of the House Senate (current president) and Honor Council (current secretary), and served as head day prefect for Inman House.
“Fatema is the House Senate president, which is the equivalent of a president of the student government, and has served on the student-run Honor Council for four years,” said Fran Buice, math teacher. “These positions are elected, and make a statement about her outgoing personality, leadership potential, level of involvement, dependability and trustworthiness.”
Bandukwala has also been a member of the varsity track and cross country teams, as well as the Atlanta Track Club. She has also served as a Floyd Youth Volunteer, a Great Smoky Mountains Volunteer and participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
“I know Fatema as a close friend of my daughter’s and from watching her for six years on the cross country and track teams,” said Buice. “She has advanced to the state level of competition in both sports for the last three years of her high school career and will do so for her senior year as well. As a parent, I have always felt fortunate that my daughter was friends with Fatema and has benefited from her good influence morally and athletically.”
Bandukwala was honored Monday, April 24 by Noon Optimist Club. She is the daughter of Dr. Quresh and Gulnar Bandukwala of Rome.
