The Atlanta Coca-Cola Bottling Company, in partnership with the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, has selected Darlington junior Harley Yancey to attend the 5th Annual Coca-Cola Student Leadership Conference Saturday, Sept. 10, at Georgia State University Student Center.
According to Connie Marshall, director of community relations for Coca-Cola, the event is designed to help young people develop leadership skills and recognize the importance of community involvement. Through interactive workshops led by college professors and leadership coaches, participants will explore topics such as leadership perspectives, dimensions of influence and impact of society on leadership progression. Working in groups with other student leaders from around the state of Georgia, they will have the opportunity to discuss challenges faced by everyday leaders and share their views on possible solutions.
“I am very excited about being selected for the Coca-Cola Student Leadership Conference, and am looking forward to meeting many other young leaders,” said Yancey. “Through my involvement in the program, I hope to gain a vast knowledge of the State and other areas around us. I am looking forward to contributing to the conference and to representing Rome.”
At Darlington, Yancey has been a member of the Honor Council, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, FCA, Spanish Club, Field and Stream Club, Young Republicans and Science Club. He has played varsity lacrosse, varsity football and varsity crew as well. During the summer of 2005, he was selected to represent Darlington at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine held in Boston, Mass.
Yancey is son of Dee (’77) and Molly Yancey of Rome. He is one of two students selected from the Rome area to participate in the leadership conference.
