Getting to know new faculty and staff members

Darlington School is pleased to welcome the following new faculty and staff for the 2004-2005 school year:

Lindsay Bergen, Upper School science teacher, has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, and completed post-baccalaureate science coursework at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a personal trainer and high school coach prior to her first teaching job at The Phelps School in Malvern, Penn., where she taught biology, chemistry and physics. Bergen was a science tutor at Darlington in 2003-2004. She lives on-campus with her husband, Pete, who also works at the School as Head of the House for the Bergen House.

Brian Burkhart, Upper School information technology (IT) teacher, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Philosophy from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. During his undergraduate studies, he worked as a teaching assistant in the college’s department of computer science and a computer programmer in the college’s department of psychology. He lives on-campus.

Annie Camp, Darlington String Project instructor at the Lower School, is a Juilliard graduate and is certified by the New York School for Strings. An adjunct professor of cello at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., Camp plays cello with the Atlanta Opera and has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony and the Alabama Symphony Orchestras. Before moving to Georgia, Camp was a string orchestra teacher in New York City, where she designed and implemented her own original program in three elementary schools. She and her husband, William, live in Rockmart, Ga., with their children William, 4, and Mary, 5.

Theresa Dulaney, Lower School physical education teacher, has a Bachelor of Science in Early Elementary Education from Shorter College, where she also minored in physical education. Prior to her work at Darlington, she has taught at Elm Street Elementary School and West End Elementary School, both in Rome, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School in Little Rock, Ark. She has also owned her own business, Resa’s Salsa, since 2001. Dulaney lives in Rome with her husband, Brian (’79), a community coach for the Darlington football team, and their daughters, Anna Kate, 7, Lauren, 13, and Brittni, 15.

Bryan Evans (’99), a member of the House Duty Staff and assistant varsity boys’ soccer coach, earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Georgia. Evans has worked as video production coordinator at First Baptist Church of Rome since he was a student at Darlington. He has also worked as a sports announcer for the Rome Braves on Rome’s local WLAQ Talk Radio 1410AM and as an office assistant at Anniston Metals, Inc. He lives on-campus.

Danielle Ezell (’95), assistant director of admission for eventing and member of the House Duty Staff, has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Georgia. Prior to Darlington, she has worked at two veterinary clinics and two horse-boarding facilities, including Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., and Kosadus Farm in Rocky Face. She lives on-campus with her husband, Alex, who also works at Darlington.

Alex Ezell (’94), Upper School English teacher, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Georgia. He has a great deal of Web experience, having worked as a site specialist, Web developer, senior Web developer and Web designer for various organizations, including EzGov, Singularis and Combiz. He lives on-campus with his wife, Danielle, who also works at Darlington.

Molly Gannaway, Annual Fund gift officer, has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. Most recently, she served as event coordinator for the University of Georgia Alumni Association Atlanta Alumni Center. She lives in Rome with her husband, Craig.

Jim Hendrix, interim president and Upper School history teacher, holds an Artium Baccalaureatus degree from Davidson College in North Carolina and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. He has more than 30 years of experience as a teacher and administrator at various institutions, including Western Carolina University; Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas; Greensboro Day School; Davidson College; Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, N.C.; and The Lovett School in Atlanta. Hendrix lives on-campus, at the Home-on-the-Hill, with his wife, Libby.

Daniel Hicks, student activities director and member of the House Duty Staff, earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Leadership from Shorter College. He has worked as a law clerk for Floyd Farless and presently works with ARAMARK at Darlington School. He lives on-campus with his wife, Heidi, who teaches Spanish at Darlington Middle School.

Matthew Jones (’99), football coach and member of the House Duty Staff, has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Georgia. Prior to his work at Darlington, Jones was varsity football coach at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens. He lives on-campus.

Tannika King, director of media relations, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Berry College. After graduating, King worked as media associate in the Office of Institutional Relations at Shorter College, from 2002 until 2004. She lives in Rome.

Chad Liddle, director of the Darlington School Soccer Academy and assistant director of admission, has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Berry College and a Master of Sports Management from the University of Georgia. Liddle is a member of the U.S. Soccer National Instructor Staff, NSCAA National Staff Coach and Region III ODP Staff. He holds a USSF “A” license and is a member of many professional soccer organizations, including the NSCAA, USYSA Region III ODP Staff and the Georgia State Soccer Association ODP and Coaching Course Instructor Staff. He lives on-campus with his wife, Darcy, and their children Landon, 1, and Alexander, 3.

Patti Maffett, Upper School math teacher, has a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Georgia and also earned re-certification at the Master Level from Kennesaw State University. She has taught math for more than 15 years at various schools in Florida, including Evans High School, Pensacola Junior College and Milton High School. Additionally, she has worked at three Sylvan Learning Center locations, serving as owner and director of education at the Rome branch for four years. She has also taught home school. Maffett lives in Rome with her husband, Lance, and their children, Callie, 4, Luke, 10, and Natalie, 13.

Leanne Mann, Upper School English teacher, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Communication, Sales and Marketing from Campbell University in Buies Creek. N.C. She was also certified as an Emergency Medical Technician at St. Petersburg Junior College. Most recently, Mann worked as a language arts teacher at St. Mary’s School in Rome. She has also worked at Bradenton Travel Service, Rome/Floyd County Parks & Recreation Authority and owned Plum Crazy Outfitters and Dry Flyer Outfitters. She lives in Rome with her husband, Marshall.

Kelley McDurmon, Upper School history teacher and head varsity wrestling coach, holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Berry College. After graduating, he taught history at Rockmart High School, from 1995 until 2004. He lives on-campus with his wife, Heather, and their children Luke, 2, Rhett, 4, Anne Marie, 7, and Ansley, 10.

Lynda Miller, administrative assistant in the College Guidance Office, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Information Science from the University of Georgia and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University, where she completed additional coursework in Computer Information Systems (CIS). She has worked for the State of Georgia (Governor’s staff), Unisys Corporation, Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems and Miller Landscaping Group, Inc. She lives in Rome with her husband, Doug, and their sons, Garrett, 6, and Cole, 10.

Joe Montgomery, vice president for institutional advancement, is a graduate of Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., and Harvard University’s Institute of Educational Management in the Graduate School of Education. He has also studied at the University of Oklahoma’s ABA School of Banking and Williamsburg Development Institute. With nearly 20 years of success in banking and in fundraising for private educational institutions, Montgomery has been vice president for college relations and development at Shorter College and director of development at Stetson University. Most recently, working with individuals and foundations in the area of wealth management, he served as senior vice president of private client services for SunTrust Bank of Northwest Georgia. Montgomery lives in Rome with his wife, Rebekah (’78), and their daughters, Hannah, 12, Mary Beth, 15, and Anne, 17.

Dena Peace, Lower School kindergarten teacher's aide, earned an Associate of Science in Business from Coosa Valley Technical College. She has served as a substitute teacher at the Lower School in previous years. She and her husband, Jeff, live in Rome with their children Jayson,6, and Heather, 10.

Kimberly Pichardo, Upper School Spanish teacher, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from Brenau University in Gainesville. She has taught at St. Mary’s School in Rome, Carol Morgan International School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and The Montessori School of Rome. She lives on-campus with her husband, Nelson, and their daughter Sophia, 5 months.

Jennifer Taylor, Lower School art teacher, earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Berry College. She taught art at Ashworth Middle School in Calhoun and West End Elementary School in Rome before pursing interior design, private art instruction and freelance art. She lives in Rome with her husband, Michael, and their children, Emily, 4, and Will, 9.

Bruce Watterson, associate vice president for public relations, holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Art from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., and a Master of Arts in news-editorial journalism and public relations from the University of Arkansas. He brings 15 years of experience as a public relations officer and has served as director of the Office of Public Affairs for Henderson University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and as district public relations editor for North Little Rock Public Schools. He lives in Rome with his wife, Renva.

Tami Wilcox, first grade teacher at the Lower School, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Shorter College. Most recently, Wilcox has worked as a Pre-First aide at Darlington Lower School. Prior to that, she served as a substitute teacher at the Lower School and taught at Johnson Elementary School and Alto Park Elementary School, both in Rome. Wilcox lives in Rome with her husband, Bill (’84), and their children, Roth, 4, and Claire, 7.
