Sixteen Darlington students have recently been awarded scholarships:
· Kathleen Ryan Adams, daughter of Walt and Laura Adams, Rome, Ga., has been awarded a Sewanee President’s Award by Sewanee University, Sewanee, Tenn. She will receive an annual award of $6,000 for a total award of $24,000 over four years.
· Sabrina-Gaye Beecham, daughter of Viviene and Michael Beecham, Kingston 8, Jamaica, has been selected to receive a merit-based scholarship as a Dean’s Scholar by Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y. She will receive $5,000 a year for a total award of $20,000.
· Virginia Lauren Davidson, daughter of Sherry and Gene Davison, Rome, Ga., has been awarded an Averett Grant by Averett University, Danville, Va., of $3,400 per year for a total award of $13,600.
· Padrick Davison Dennis, son of Jane and Dave Dennis, Pass Christian, Miss., has been selected as a Georgia M. Wilkins Scholar by Sewanee, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. He will receive a scholarship grant worth not less than half tuition annually. In addition to this half tuition award, he will receive a supplemental $2,000 award. The total award is worth $65,720. Dennis has also been recognized by Tulane University, New Orleans, La., as a Distinguished Scholar. He will receive an annual award of $16,000 for tuition and $2,000 for housing for a total award of $72,000.
· Lianne K. Forrester, daughter of Karen and Raf Forrester, Kingston 8, Jamaica, has been chosen to receive an Ohio Wesleyan University Dean’s Award and an OWU Recognition Award by Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio. She will receive a Dean’s Award of $9,000 per year and $2,000 per year in OWU Recognition Award funds for a total award of $44,000.
· Alice Allgood Cooper Griffin, daughter of Paul and Lynne, Rome, Ga., has been awarded a McKissick Scholars Award by the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. She will receive an annual award of $2,000 and a tuition reduction to the in-state rate for a total award of $40,500 over four years.
· Mary Kathryn Harrison, daughter of Steve and Judy Harrison, Rome, Ga., has been awarded a Hollins Trustee Scholarship by Hollins University, Roanoke, Va. She will receive an annual award of $10, 500 for a total award of $42,000 over four years.
· Melissa Kay Jarrell, daughter of Ricky and Marie Jarrell, Rome, Ga., has been awarded the 2003 University of Georgia Charter Scholarship by the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. She will receive an annual award of $1,000 for a total award of $4,000 over four years. She has also been selected to receive the Dean’s Holmes-Abernathy Honor Scholarship from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. She will receive $28,000 a year for a total award of $112,000.
· Mohammed Khateeb, son of Naima and Samir Khateeb, Palestine, and nephew of Nabiha and Nassim Khatib, Rome, Ga., has been awarded a grant by Roanoke College, Salem, Va., of $8,000 per year for a total award of $32,000.
· Paul Dominic Kountz, son of Paul and Judy Kountz, Rome, Ga., has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship by Rhodes College, Memphis, Tenn. He will receive an annual award of $9,000 for a total of $36,000 over four years. He has also been selected as a Benjamin Wofford Scholar by Wofford College, Spartanburg, S.C. He will receive an annual award of $18,000 a year for a total award of $72,000. And, Kountz has been selected to receive a 4-Year, Type 7 Air Force ROTC scholarship by the Department of the Air Force, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. He will receive $510 per year for textbooks and at least a $250 monthly stipend during each school year for a total award of $10,020.
· Andrew J. Lawrence, son of Jim and Peggy Lawrence, Rome, Ga., has been awarded the Dean’s Tuition Scholarship by Saint Louis University, St. Louis, Mo. He will receive an annual award of $9,500 for a total award of $38,000 over four years.
· Brittany Elyse Moody, daughter of David and Barbara Moody, Rome, Ga., has been awarded the 2003 University of Georgia Charter Scholarship by the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. She will receive an annual award of $1,000 for a total award of $4,000 over four years. She has also been selected as a Georgia M. Wilkins Scholar by Sewanee, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. She will receive a scholarship grant worth not less than half tuition with a supplemental $2,000 award annually for a total award of $65,720.
· Michael Scott Poley, son of Michael and Stephanie Poley, Rome, Ga., has been named a Jesse Mercer Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. He will receive an annual award of $13,000 for a total award of $52,000 over four years. He has also been awarded a personal notebook computer equipped with the latest software and hardware.
· James Nathan Starr, son of Renate and Trammell Starr, Rome, Ga, has been named a Plunkett Legacy Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. He will receive $9,000 a year for a total award of $36,000
· Mimi Faith Sumner, daughter of Randy and Su Sumner, Cave Springs, Ga., has been awarded the 2003 University of Georgia Charter Scholarship by the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. She will receive an annual award of $1,000 for a total award of $4,000 over four years.
· Troy Watson, son of Lorraine Kearney, Bronx, N.Y., has been selected by Pace University, New York, N.Y., to receive a Pace Incentive Award of $5,000 per year for a total award of $20,000.
