During the week of October 27, students in grades 3, 5, and 7 will take the ERB (Educational Records Bureau) CTP5 standardized assessment. Testing will occur Monday through Thursday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on Late Start Wednesday). Please avoid scheduling absences during this week.

The Darlington Chapter of the National Honor Society will invite qualifying students to become new members for the 2025-2026 school year starting Friday, October 24.
To qualify for a membership invitation, students must have fulfilled the folllowing, based on the 2024-2025 school year:
Junior students who are invited to apply will receive a link to the NHS online application, which will then be evaluated by the NHS Faculty Council at Darlington Upper School. Students will be notified of the council's decision in early November with an induction ceremony to follow at a later date.
Applications must be completed and submitted online no later than 5pm on October 31, 2025.

We’re excited to announce a new water machine is now available in the Student Center! It offers ice, cold water, and hot water for your convenience. Please use caution — the hot water is very hot and can cause burns. Enjoy your drinks safely!
Basketball season is right around the corner!
There will be an informational meeting for any student interested in cheering for basketball on Monday, October 27 during office hours (9:45) in the DBR.

Pre-K to 8 students will be celebrating Homecoming the week of Oct. 20-24 with spirit dress days. If your student does not want to participate in the spirit days, they are to wear their school uniform. The following is what students are encouraged to wear each day starting on Wednesday:
Wednesday, Oct. 22 - Favorite Jersey Day
On Favorite Jersey Day, students are encouraged to wear a jersey or shirt from their favorite sports team. Non-uniform bottoms are ok. This is your chance to show your pride and join in the fun.
Thursday, Oct. 23 - Pajama Day
Students may wear pajamas, shorts, or sweatpants to school for comfort. If they wear slippers, they must bring shoes for break, recess and PE.
Friday, Oct. 24 - Tiger Spirit Day
Students are encouraged to wear purple and white, including their favorite Darlington T-shirt or sweatshirt with tiger spirit bottoms. Make sure shorts or skirts are appropriate for school.
Come cheer on the Tigers at the Homecoming Game on Friday night at Chris Hunter Stadium. Go Tigers!
Monday: Pajama Day
Tuesday: Inseparable pairs (Ex. PB and J, Mario and Luigi)
Wednesday: Jersey Day (jersey or shirt supporting a team)
Thursday: Adam Sandler Day (Dress like your favorite Adam Sandler Character--Baggy t-shirts and shorts, for example)
Friday: Chapel Dress: However, if you bought a Homecoming t-shirt, you are allowed to change into it with the bottoms of your choice after the Distinguished Alumn speaks in the Chapel. If you did not buy a Homecoming T-shirt, you will need to remain in your Chapel uniform all day.
We can’t wait to see all the amazing outfits and school pride! However, please remember that all Spirit Week attire must follow the school dress code.

Please note that some clubs overlap in schedule. Students are welcome to join more than one club, but they may occasionally have to miss a session due to conflicts.

Please see the video below to learn more about the Governor's Honors Program (GHP). This is a 4-week academic residential summer program for current Sophomores and Juniors. The program usually goes from mid-June to mid-July. If you are interested, please stop by my office to sign up. The last day to sign up will be Friday, October 24th. If more than 10 students sign up, then the Darlington GHP committee will interview all students and select the 10 nominees. I will need your name and area you are interested in.

The Yancey Library would like to invite you to join a pumpkin decorating contest! Darlington students and staff may decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. All pumpkins will be judged by a panel of judges according to 3 criteria: representation of character, creativity, and craftsmanship. Each category will have one winner from each cohort (Pre-K-2, 3-5, and 6-8).
Please bring in a decorated pumpkins to the school library between October 15 - through October 28. All entries must be received by 4:00 PM the afternoon of October 28.
Categories:
All by Myself: The student created the pumpkin independently, with only minor help from adults.
Family: Parents, siblings, grandparents and other awesome adults worked together with the student to create their pumpkin.
Team (6-8 only!): A group of 2-6 students work together with minimal adult help to create a pumpkin.
Faculty: For teachers and staff
Rules:
1. All pumpkins must be altered from their original state using craft supplies (hot glue, paint etc.). Only craft pumpkins, please, NO REAL PUMPKINS.
2. Pumpkins should represent a book character. On the entry form, please write the title and author of the book. I would recommend getting the book information first before starting to decorate the pumpkin.
3. This will be a home project and students must be involved in the creation of their pumpkin. One pumpkin per student, please.

Monday, December 1, 2025: Shuttles will be provided for flights scheduled to arrive before 6:00 pm. The Student Life Office will share shuttle assignments (including departure times from the Atlanta airport) with students before departure for break.
Dorms open @ 2pm on Monday, December 1
Students who arrive early will be responsible for making their own accommodations until the dorms open.

The Fine Arts Department is pleased to present our Discover events for the fall season, part of this year’s Art in 3D program. Events will take place across campus throughout September and October.
