Maker Challenge Camps

There will be TWO concurrent camp sessions during the week. Engineering Challenges will be focused mainly on building robots and computer programming with the Lego Spark and other systems, while Maker Creations will involve creative activities related to physical science, coding, mechanical engineering, design, and art. Every skill level, ranging from beginner to super geek, can participate in either of the two sessions.

Maker Creations: Rising 3rd - 5th (limited to 25 participants)

Engineering Challenges: Rising 6th - 9th (limited to 25 participants)

  • Campers will have partners for all activities and are expected to work cooperatively.
  • A great sleep and breakfast before arrival are strongly recommended.
  • Lunch will be served in the school dining hall, and we will have snacks and drinks once per day
  • Campers should be able to stay focused on building and computer-related activities for approximately 1.5 hours at a time.
  • Supervised swimming at the Darlington pool will be offered two times each week

Note: This camp will take place at Thatcher Hall. Lunch will be provided.

About the director 
Owen Kinney, head of the science department, has taught at Darlington School since 1999. He has directed academic enrichment and adventure camps for elementary and middle school students for more than two decades years, and he has also coached Darlington’s robotics teams for the past 15 years. He currently teaches AP Environmental Science, Zoology and Biology at the Upper School. Owen's summer staff includes Darlington teachers as well as seasoned veterans of the FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge programs at Darlington.
