The Fine Arts Department at Darlington School seeks a full-time Music Teacher for grades Pre-K through 8th grade beginning January 2024. A Darlington teacher fully supports the mission and values of the school and has the primary responsibility for creating the best student experience possible in support of the school’s learning framework, The Cycle of Learning. The candidate should value the craft of teaching as much as the skills and content being learned, and would join a dynamic environment of teaching professionals who are continuously growing and collaborating. Teachers work with grade-level and enrichment teachers to support the mission of Darlington School and provide a program that nurtures every child’s success.

Qualifications

The candidate must demonstrate broad knowledge and experience with current best practices in music curriculum, instruction, and performance. The candidate must have a genuine appreciation and passion for teaching children and a desire to work with all types of learners, along with a commitment to building and maintaining a music/choral program and their own professional development 

The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching music and choir and hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree in music education or performance and/or acceptable transcript that demonstrates competency in music and choral techniques. Darlington seeks candidates who can contribute to and will support the academic and extracurricular life of the entire school.

  • Designs a course backwards from a given skills-based curriculum map and uses a wide range of assessment tools to measure progress against learning goals.

Core Responsibilities

• Teach Pre-K to 5th Grade General Music 
• Co-direct 6th-8th Grade Chorus
• Direct 4th and 5th Grade Chorus
• Direct a 3rd through 8th Grade spring musical production
• Prepare students for performances throughout the year based on the school calendar
• Participate in GISA and GMEA events as appropriate for individual students and ensembles and in coordination with the school calendar
• Prepare students and collaborate with classroom teachers for support of Pre-K through 2nd Grade plays
• Adviser for 6th through 8th grade students
• Provide regular student feedback (grades, attendance, comments, etc)
• Manage budget and maintain a music and resources collection and classroom inventory
• Various other responsibilities may include supervising students at times outside class (car line, lunch, recess, after school), grade level meetings, weekly faculty meetings or professional learning communities, substituting, committee meetings, professional development, weekend/campus activities, campus events (i.e. parents weekend, admission, etc)
