We're excited to connect with our alumni through our new Darlington Connects series. Today we hear from Matt Goldin ('12) and hear about his contributions to the Clemson University sports blog Shakin the Southland.
Matt Goldin is a Clemson University sports fanatic! He loves all things Tiger and while an undergrad spent much of his free time attending Clemson athletic events. His junior year, he saw an opportunity to write for the Clemson sports blog Shakin The Southland. He applied and was hired.
“I was going to the games already and I enjoy writing so I thought, why not do both!” he said.
That was six years ago. Now, hundreds of games later, Matt still loves watching his Clemson Tigers play and writing about both baseball and football.
“Mr. Murray’s class my junior year and Mr. Powell’s English class my senior year had some really interesting reading assignments that exposed me to very different writing styles," he said. "This really impacted my personal writing style."
Matt played football at Darlington and grew up playing baseball and going to see Clemson athletics so writing about sports came naturally. Click here and here to read some samples of his work.
Matt has been working in social work in Lancaster County, South Carolina but will be entering John Marshall Law School in Atlanta this fall. He comes from a family of attorneys. His father, Hal, was district attorney in Floyd County and brother, Jamey (’03), is an energy regulatory counsel for global energy markets and policy at Google, where he’s responsible for the company’s legal, regulatory, and policy initiatives in eastern North America.
Matt plans to continue writing for www.shakinthesouthland.com.
“I will continue to write a football article once a week, but will have to scale back on covering baseball season next spring,” he said.
We wish Matt all the best in law school and this sports season!
