With 191 projects by over 300 students, this was the Tech Fair's biggest year ever! Regions participating at the competition were Haralson County, Whitfield County, Darlington, Rome City, Calhoun City, Walker County, Floyd County, Gordon County, and Dalton Public. Students presented in 15 different categories from Animation to Video Production. Our school took 45 students from grades 3-12.

The following students were chosen to participate and did an amazing job! Each student showed confidence and was given compliments on their knowledge and understanding of the topics covered. It was a great day to be a Tiger!

Students in grades 3-5 completed their projects during Justin Merriam’s science class and spent time working after school and during their computer/coding class time.

Susan Mann’s media arts students in grades 6-8 presented their digital photographs they edited during the enrichment class. Middle grades students in the STEAM/Robotics class were able to present projects they have worked on throughout the semester.

In the Video Production category, Adrienne Forgette had one of her students showcase the amazing hype video the Sports & Arts Media class had produced prior to the football playoffs.

Mano Hernandez had students present projects his students created during their class in the MakerSpace. Owen Kinney had many DarBots and various students present projects they created for the Atlanta MakerFaire, as well as games they designed in class.

During the competition, students were invited to participate in various challenges, including Kahoot!, a Laser Maze, Bingo, and Guess How Many. We had several winners that received a variety of prizes from Lego kits to a Selfie Stick. Our biggest winner from these events was the Guess How Many grand prize winner, Juliette Forgette, who won a brand new Kindle Fire!

During this time, students could also go take the Technology Literacy Challenge which is an online, multiple choice test that can be taken by any students competing at the Tech Fair. The test had 50 multiple choice questions that covered the history and parts of computers, the Internet, new and emerging technologies, programming, and much more. We had TWO students win this challenge in both the 7, 8 grade category and the 9, 10 grade category. Michael Hall won with a score of 80 and Elliot Kinney also won with a score of 80. This is a wonderful testimony to how smart these young men are and how much they have learned while at Darlington.

We participated in nine categories and had a win in EIGHT! With eight category wins and 21 medals, Darlington was well represented. Winners from the Region will advance to the Georgia Educational Technology Fair on March 6, 2016. There, they will face the winners from 18 other regions.

Congratulations to the following students for placing first at Region and heading to state!

Also, thank you to Justin Merriam and Owen Kinney for staying after each day to work with the students and accompanying them to the event.
