Bethany Cagle and Indra Sofian have earned corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.
Cagle has been selected as a winner of the Corporate-Sponsored Lorrillard Merit Scholarship. An AP Scholar, she is a member of National Honor Society, Cum Laude Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National French Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Gamma Chi Epsilon and "Y" Cabinet. She is also a member of the varsity track and cross country teams, winning a state championship, All-Area honors, MVP and a Scholar-Athlete Award in track. Cagle has received the George W. Awsumb Award and E.L. Wright Awards for having the highest average in English I, English II and French I. She enjoys volunteering with community organizations like RACE Rome, First Presbyterian Church, Paradise Gardens and more. She is the daughter of Hillary Thomas of Rome and Larry Cagle, also of Rome.
Sofian has been selected as a winner of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship underwritten by PepsiCo Foundation Inc. A day student, he has taken 19 Honors and AP courses at Darlington. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish National Honor Society, the Math Team, the Chess Club, Coosa International Tennis Academy, the varsity tennis team, IMPACT Club, The Inkslinger staff and serves as an Admission Tiger Expert. Sofian has also received the E.L. Wright Award for Algebra 2 Honors, the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit and the Yale Book Award and the 2013 Scholar-Athlete Award for varsity tennis. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction. He is the son of Erwin Sofian and Julita Roesli of Rockmart, Ga.
The winners of approximately 8,000 National Merit Scholarships are chosen from the group of 15,000 distinguished finalists.
