The Darlington Chapter of the Cum Laude Society inducted 29 new student members during an installation ceremony Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Morris Chapel.
According to Dean of College Guidance Sam Moss (’63), Chapter president, membership in the Cum Laude Society is the highest academic honor Darlington can bestow upon a group of students. To be eligible for consideration, students must have an A (93) average for all four years, have taken at least eight Honors or AP courses over four years (or two each year), have earned a very high class rank and have demonstrated good character, honor and integrity in all aspects of their school life. Membership is limited to a maximum of 20% of each senior class.
Inductees included Arden Irene Babb, Joshua Michael Buttshaw, Bethany Grace Cagle, Carlos Humberto Carrillo-Valadez, Zhou Fang, Spencer Jackson Fields, Grigsby James Gordy, Connor James Hallett, Samantha Ann Harton, Winston Chandler Herring, Kejian Huang, Chandler Elizabeth Johnson, John Kamron Malone, Callee Anne Cox Manna, Sarah Sheffield Manning, Emma Friend Parham, Hector Miguel Picon, Amita Gavva Reddy, Wesley Howard Samples, Coulter Smith Schrum, Luke Olonyi Sikinyi, Shivani Amar Singh, Indra Putra Sofian, Tzu-Yu Tang, David Julius Thoms, Quyen Nguyen Hoang Tran, Charles Sharon Williams, III, Yu Xing and Rostam Zafari.
“This society is a fellowship of scholars whose purpose is to recognize excellence in academic work,” said Moss. “As these students pursue their educations, it is our hope that they will accept the honor of membership in this society as a responsibility to make some contribution to man’s ongoing search for greater understanding of himself and of society.”
