The Middle School wrestling team placed second at the GISA Middle School State Championship Tournament in Dublin, Ga., this weekend, with Rhett McDurmon (119) and Davis Peek (106) each earning individual state titles.

Eight out of Darlington's 12 wrestlers placed. Rand Smith (90) and Harris Peek (126) placed second individually; Andy Brunt (132) and Kelan Stepp (145) placed third; and Alex Liddle (85) and Dawson Williams (95) placed fourth. Critical points were also added by Lewie Camp (122) and Cade Brock (113).

"Additionally, Aiden Buzzetti (85) and Alan Shorey (80) wrestled their hearts out," said coach Randy Smith. "I am so proud of all of our guys!"

McDurmon was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler and Stepp was awarded Best Match in his victory over Hawkins of Southland Academy.

"This is the very time that our Middle School team has competed in the GISA State Championship Tournament," Smith said. "We made a definite impression and shocked many as we captured all of our awards. Congratulations to the team!"
