Senior Ventures Spotlight: Zoe Rahn

Since COVID-19, so many teenagers, all over the community, have developed issues with self-esteem and anxiety. I, too, have been affected by it. I wanted to know more about what was actually happening inside the brain of someone who is affected by these problems. So for my Senior Ventures project, I will be investigating how different environments, COVID, and other factors can affect mental illnesses in girls and what their brains look like when affected. I will be researching eating disorders, specifically -- as it is such an issue with teen girls today -- to see how one's parents, friends, school, and other mental illnesses can influence those problems.

I will be creating a blog to post my research in the form of writing. I will use anonymous testimonials as much as I can, credible websites, and possibly connect with a residential center in Atlanta. The posts will be focused on why girls could develop an eating disorder, how other mental illnesses can affect an eating disorder, and inform the viewers of ways to help themselves recover or reach out for help with recovery. The link for NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association) will be attached. There will be regular updates and a section where girls who are struggling can reach out for help and me and my mentors, Mrs. Holst and another community member.

The main goal of this project is to help young girls who are struggling with self-confidence and eating disorders as well as educating myself and others on an important issue that has become such a pressing topic in 2021.

Senior Ventures is a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement. Through a proven self-guided exploratory process, seniors whose proposals are selected for this program work independently to develop a project that’s interdisciplinary in scope and is connective, performance-based, investigative, or entrepreneurial. Click here to learn more.
