Making an Impact with the Georgia GOAL Scholarship

Since starting as the new director of GOAL in July, I have seen the amazing impact the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program has on students at Darlington School. Thanks to the support of our contributors, Darlington was able to provide 67 students with GOAL Scholarship funds this school year!

If you haven’t heard about the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, it works like this: Georgia residents or anyone who pays Georgia taxes have been given a rare opportunity – the ability to decide how to spend income tax dollars that they would otherwise pay to the government. Your GOAL contribution will allow you a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on your Georgia income tax return.  You are already paying state income taxes – why not direct those funds to provide students an opportunity to attend Darlington School. This is an amazing opportunity for you to make a significant contribution to Darlington at NO COST to you.

Thanks to the support of contributors like Michael Van Cise (’97, LD ’12), we continue to see the impact of the Georgia GOAL Scholarship program for Darlington students.

I asked Michael to share the top three reasons he gives to the Georgia GOAL Scholarship program every year, and he said:

(1) I believe in Darlington and the opportunities it provides, and I like to be a part of providing opportunities to children who might not otherwise be able to experience Darlington.

(2) It costs nothing.

(3) It’s super easy (Darlington and GOAL team take care of almost everything).

So how does one contribute to GOAL? Submitting a GOAL Tax Credit Form is easy!

Step 1. Complete the 2019 GOAL Tax Credit application today at www.goalscholarship.org (takes just 20 seconds!). Submit your application by Dec. 31, 2018! On the first business day of January 2019, GOAL submits your application to the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR). They will keep you informed every step of the way!

Step 2. Pay GOAL by check or credit card within 60 days of DOR approval (by mid-March 2019).

Step 3. Take the Credit - In May, GOAL will send you a Form IT-QEE-SSO1 (tax receipt) for claiming the credit on your 2019 Georgia income tax return. (Note: you will take the credit when you file your 2019 taxes in 2020.)

Please show your support by becoming a GOAL contributor!
