Darlington eighth-grade student Chris Mauer has been chosen to represent the school at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 7 Middle School Honor Jazz Band.

He will join other top jazz students from the district at a musician clinic and performance in Cartersville, Jan. 16-17. Over the weekend, Mauer will audition and rehearse in preparation for a special concert on Saturday evening.

Mauer was nominated by Chris Holloway, Darlington's ELA-8 director of wind and percussion.

"Chris has grown as a musician since joining band in fourth grade," said Holloway. "He was chosen because he demonstrates a higher understanding of jazz styles. His swing feel keeps the groove and propels the band forward when they play."
