10 Things I’ve Learned at Darlington: Joy

  1. Managing your time is extremely important. If you do not take care of your work, you can find yourself with two tests, seven chapters of reading, and tears streaming down your face as you try to do it all at 2 in the morning.

  2. Make a splash. Being placid and not attempting to connect with those around you is boring. When you go to an international school with a variety cultures, leadership opportunities, and clubs, you might as well dip your toe in as many of them as you can.

  3. Karen Bennett is a beautiful person who cares deeply about your schedule and your well-being. If she doesn’t let you drop a class, she believes in your capabilities. Appreciate that.

  4. Never slack off in class. Just don’t. Your teacher taking a picture of you while you are asleep and drooling is never fun.

  5. Beth Wilson is a goddess. A wonderful, intelligent goddess who is the queen of the English department.

  6. Seeing the faculty children will feel like seeing your siblings grow up—simultaneously rewarding and painful because the child that was a newborn when you first moved in is now a toddler that speaks and runs.

  7. Try something new. That statement is extremely cliché, but it holds truth. Trying something new teaches you things about yourself, and you may discover a new passion.

  8. Senior retreat is rad. Senior year, you should go because you will realize how cool your class is. #15ontop

  9. The maintenance staff are more valuable than you realize. Jeremy, Parker, Ms. Frances, Ms. Gayla and many more staff members in our community have contributed to the memories I have made at school, and everyone should try and get to know them.

  10. At Darlington, every part of the community is there for you. Every part of Darlington is connected, and every person is a vital piece of the puzzle that makes up our school.
