Forty-four students ran for office during the Lower School’s first-ever Student Council election in January. In the end, four were selected to hold office: fifth-grader Maggie Beth Atha, president; fourth-grader Rachel Hudson, vice president; fifth-grader Sarah Cait Hubbard, secretary; and third-grader Keara Evans, treasurer.
“The students’ campaigns were very professional, their posters were creative, and the speeches were well delivered,” said Dr. Steve Bartholomew, director of Lower School. “We are very proud of our student leaders and thank them for a job well done.”
Student Council representatives were also elected for each grade: Will Crawford and Karley Smallwood, third grade; Robert Muschamp and Rachel Simon, fourth grade; Cameron Boone and Thomas Gilbert, fifth grade.
Upcoming events sponsored by Student Council include a Donut Sale on Feb. 8 and a Sock Hop for grades 3-5 on Feb. 9. Admission to the Sock Hop is $1 per student, and the event will begin at 3:10 p.m. in the Tiger Gym.
