Three Darlington lacrosse players recently competed at Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins University July 27-30 as members of the state's elite Team Georgia, sponsored by Bagataway Lacrosse, Roswell. Attackman Harley Yancey, defenseman Tyler Barton and goalie Patrick Smith, all seniors, were starters on the 23-man team.
Competition was intense at what event organizers have aptly named “Champ Camp.” Sixty-four teams, primarily from New England and mid-Atlantic corridor areas, competed in as many as three games per day in a grueling four-day event. Participating teams are among the best in the nation, and many are multiple-state select teams.
Team Georgia finished 5 and 3 with two of their losses by only marginal scores. The third loss was to last year’s Champ Camp tournament champions, NESLL (New England Select Lacrosse League). Final tournament ranking was not available at press time, but Team Georgia is guaranteed a spot in the top 30 due to their tournament record prior to final day games.
