The Darlington Chapter of the Cum Laude Society inducted 29 new members during an installation ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 11 in Morris Chapel.

According to Dean of College Guidance Sam Moss (’63), Chapter president, membership in the Cum Laude Society is the highest academic honor Darlington can bestow upon a group of students.

"This year we are inducting 25 members of the senior class - the maximum number allowed. In addition, for the first time in many, many years, we are inducting four members of the junior class in recognition of their having achieved a remarkably high cumulative average since the ninth grade," said Moss.

To be eligible for consideration, students must have an A (93) average for all four years, have taken at least eight Honors or AP courses over four years (or two each year), have earned a very high class rank and have demonstrated good character, honor and integrity in all aspects of their school life. Membership is limited to a maximum of 20 percent of each senior class.

Inductees included Brennan Baker of Rome, Lauren Dean of Rome, Brittni Dulaney of Rome, Shireen Fakhri of Rome, Grant Harbin of Rome, Jackson Harris of Rome, Wes Henderson of Aragon, Ga., Brett Henson of Elko, Nev., Peter Hjort of Rome, Schell Hufstetler of Rome, Luke Hyder of Cave Spring, Ga., Lauren Johnson of Cartersville, Ga., Titus Junemann of Germany, Yeo-Jim Jung of Korea, Dong Hyun Kim of Korea, Anna Krueger of Trion, Ga., Narin Limlenglert of Thailand, Jacob Malone of Lindale, Ga., Miriah Martin of Lindale, Ga., Clark McGehee of Rome, Michelle-Marie Picon of Rome, Pitcha Prasitmeeboon of Thailand, Michael Rebman of Lindale, Ga., Laura Roberts of Rome, Trey Robinson of Charleston, S.C., Anna Safigan of Rome, Wil Tucker of Rome, and Peter Whatley of Rome.

“This society is a fellowship of scholars whose purpose is to recognize excellence in academic work,” said Moss. “As these students pursue their educations, it is our hope that they will accept the honor of membership in this society as a responsibility to make some contribution to man’s ongoing search for greater understanding of himself and of society.”

Inductees were presented with pins and certificates of membership. Also during the ceremony, returning faculty Chapter member Morgan McCrary (’01) and faculty inducted members Zaya Fusco and Kay Lowe were recognized.
