Volunteers and donors are holding strong to this year’s Annual Fund theme, “Changing the World One Student at a Time,” and it is because of their dedication and support that the total topped $1 million Nov. 8 at an Alumni/Parent Phonathon.
“Our volunteers and board members have worked hard to put us ahead of the game. Last year’s campaign reached $1 million in early December, so we are about one month ahead,” said Dee Yancey (’77), Annual Fund chairman. “Reaching the $1 million mark so early in the campaign is exciting because we are building the momentum we need to surpass our goal.”
The current Annual Fund total is $1,023,107 from 1,137 donors, which is 71 percent of the 2005-06 goal of $1,433,000. According to Annual Fund Gifts Officer Molly Gannaway, this year’s phonathons have been instrumental in the campaign’s success.
“Phonathons have raised $246,476 from 503 donors, with the Nov. 7 and 8 events held at the State Mutual corporate offices contributing $65,721,” said Gannaway. “Additionally, we have already reached our parent participation goal of 60 percent thanks to the leadership of our board members. This is exciting news for Darlington.”
Nearly 100 volunteers have already given their time at phonathons, gatherings and through personal solicitation during the course of this year. The 2005-06 Annual Fund Board includes Yancey, Vice Chairperson Emily Hjort,
Alumni Chairperson Joe Watters (’80),
Board of Visitors Chairperson Doc Kibler,
Upper School Parent Co-Chairpersons Jeff (’79) and Allison (’79) Brooks,
Middle School Parent Chairperson Tom Shea,
Lower School Parent Chairpersons Charlie (’82) and Liz Williams,
Grandparent Co-Chairpersons Harlan (’39) and Nancy Starr,
Rome Major Gifts Chairperson Gardner Wright (’47),
Rome Phonathon Co-Chairpersons Ed Watters (’83) and Lou Dempsey (’87),
Parent of Alumni Chairperson Ed Brewster (’61),
Upper School Faculty Co-Chairpersons Tara and Brian Inman,
Middle School Faculty Chairperson Rachel Rice (’98) and
Lower School Faculty Chairperson Lucy Babcock (’71T).
“I want to thank all those who have helped us achieve these milestones, and thank in advance those who plan to contribute in the near future,” said Yancey. “Together, we are changing the world, one student at a time!”
Last year’s successful Annual Fund campaign helped to purchase instructional equipment for Darlington’s classrooms and funded improvements to academic programs and faculty support initiatives such as academic enhancement conferences and seminars.
