First graders took the stage Thursday, Nov. 18, presenting their annual Thanksgiving play for students, staff and parents.
“The play, ‘The Eagle and the Turkey’ debated which bird deserved to be the national symbol of our country,” said first grade teacher Gayle Monk. “Assistant Principal Diane Lumpkin artfully directed the students, and many parents coordinated scenery preparation and colorful costumes. All had an enjoyable and memorable time.”
The students also performed the play on Tuesday for residents of Riverwood Nursing Home.
“It has been a tradition for more than 20 for the students to perform at the nursing home,” said Monk. “Several students have family members who reside there. The kids received gift bags from the residents after the performance. All who participated felt the true meaning of giving thanks.”
Pilgrims were played by Lyons Nida as the father, Savannah Dempsey as the mother, Daniel Morris as the son and Madison Brinson as the daughter.
Turkeys were played by Andrew Strickland, Anna Claire Atha, Abby Cantrell, Caleb Cox, Annie Davis, Caroline Thoms, Keara Evans, Rachel Jacobs, Carl Schriever, Perin Foote, Jacquelyn Johnson, Bob Ledbetter, Ivy Brandon, Sally Jones, Bentley Smith and Matalyn Santini.
Eagles were played by Tanner Berry, Biddy Braden, Brandon Cox, Quinton Johnson, Jade Cox, Raven Burdick, Will Sparks, Landon Rice, Karley Smallwood, Drake Frix, Jared Deaton, John Turner Petty, Luke Johnson, Landon Lawrence, Will Crawford and Ethan Pender.
