In mid-February, for the first time in its history, the Middle School boys basketball team won the league championship. The team beat Trion in the first round 37-26, then beat Coosa in the semi-finals 50-47, and went on to beat Chattooga in the championship game, winning 33-30.

The Tigers won eight of their last nine games and finished with an overall stellar record of 13-4 for the season. “It takes a lot to win the championship in this league, and we had a really skilled team with a great group of guys,” Assistant Coach Kevin Ivester said. “Coach Pieroni and I have never had a team that could shoot the ball as well as this team could and our shooting carried us all year. It was a great accomplishment to win it all and each and every boy should be proud of what the team accomplished this year.”

In the championship game, the Tigers outscored Chattooga 25-20 in the second half. Robert Wilson was the game MVP and led the way in scoring and rebounding. Wilson finished with 15 points, while Tyson Betts added eight points and Patrick Collier had six. “It is somewhat ironic that our inside game is what we relied on in the championship game,” Ivester said. “But that just shows you how well rounded and versatile this team was.”

In the Coosa game, Patrick Wilson led the scoring with 12 points, including three three-pointers. Collier and Betts each had 10 points. Betts hit two free throws with 1.4 seconds left to seal the win.

Against Trion, Ben Jackson led with 13 points, Collier added eight, and Robert Wilson finished with six points.
