Day #SeniorSpotlight: Atlas Kosedag

Maddie Chastain | March 10, 2025 | 357 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Atlas Kosedag, an eight-year day student from Rome who serves as student body president and helped revitalize Darlington’s Servant Leadership Program through his Senior Ventures project.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Transformative, curiosity-driven, community

What song reminds you of high school?
"Kitchen" by Kid Cudi. I always listen to him when studying late at night, and this song really takes me back to those study sessions.

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“The Boys.” I started watching it after one of the seniors mentioned it to me last year, and I finished all of the seasons in a couple weeks.

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Either Mellow Mushroom or Chipotle

What house are you a member of?
Neville House (the superior one!)

What are you involved in?
I'm the president of the Student Council, co-president of the Servant Leadership Committee, a member of the track and cross country teams, coverage editor of the Jabberwokk yearbook, a Tiger Tutor leader, a Neville Day leader, and a Y-Cabinet leader.

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach would have to be my cross country coach, Coach Evans. He taught me that when you reach what you think is your limit, you shouldn’t stop there. Instead, you should keep pushing beyond it to discover your true potential.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
My favorite activity as the coverage editor of the yearbook is working with the editor in chief, Charlie Patel, on setting the spreads for the Jabberwokk yearbook. It's always cool to know that you're making a direct impact on a creative project.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is the Ridge Trail. It's part of the trail system behind the science building, and it's one that we run frequently during cross country and track season. I like the fact that it's downhill and shaded; it makes it perfect for long runs with friends.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
It's hard to choose, but I'd have to say Mr. Shorey and Mr. Woods in my Calculus BC class. It's definitely the most difficult class I've taken, but their intuitive teaching styles blend together seamlessly to make the material digestible. On top of that, they are some of the most encouraging and patient teachers I've ever had -- they're always happy to sit down and work through a difficult problem with me.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the sense of community. Whether it’s in the classroom or at other school events, there’s always a strong support system that makes it feel like a second family for me.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
In late January, I was able to connect with Mr. Whit Whitaker (’77, LD ’15) at the Senior Dinner with the Board of Trustees. If it wasn't for Darlington's desire to connect the senior class with the Board of Trustees through this dinner, I wouldn't have been able to have the heartfelt conversation that we shared that night that resulted in me learning some very important lessons.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
During my time at Darlington, I’ve grown into a much more social and confident person. Being surrounded by a diverse community of people from all over the world taught me the value of building meaningful connections. This environment encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, and as a result, I flourished socially.

What is your dream job?
Being the CEO of Boston Dynamics.

If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
I am 99% committed to Georgia Tech for Mechanical Engineering!
