In a final opportunity before the crucial vote takes place on Nov. 5 to determine which is the more popular lunch meal, candidates hamburgers and grilled cheese squared off in a debate in the Commons in front of a captured audience of students in grades 3-5. The two main candidates were flanked by their running mates, french fries and tater tots, as they made their final push to convince the Thatcher Hall voters that their meal is the healthiest, most beneficial, as well as most environmentally friendly lunche choice.
The debate, which was very vocal and somewhat contentious when it came to health and taste considerations, was well-received by those voters in attendance. The audience consisted of three very distinct, but firmly rooted supporters of each party, as well as a small but vocal crowd of undecided voters. As the debate gained momentum and as points were being emphasized, there was some movement noticed in the undecided crowd before things wrapped up. Final appeals were made on each side and a thunderous applause followed for both parties as they extended their well wishes and reminded the voters of the importance of casting their vote on Tuesday.
We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Evans and his AP U.S. Government and Politics students for all of their hard work creating campaign videos and hosting our debate for us. We are excited for the chance to cast our votes!
