Students in Ms. Shores's 11th grade AP U.S. History class created "found" poetry while studying the Montgomery Bus Boycott that began in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. While many people remember the arrest of Rosa Parks as the start of the boycott, there were many other women and organizers that contributed to and organized this effort to desegregate the public transit system in Montgomery. Students were given materials to read about those involved in the boycott, then were challenged to select only twelve words to create a poem about the historic part of the Civil Rights Movement.
