Get Involved and Make the Best of Your Darlington Experience

Each Monday at assembly, our student body repeats the school motto “Wisdom More Than Knowledge, Service Beyond Self, Honor Above Everything.” In our daily interactions with students in the classroom, on the playing fields or on stage, during our extracurricular activities, and in our residential program, we are constantly pushing them to live The Tiger Way, which encourages them to value and take pride in the Darlington Community by reaching inside themselves to learn with passion, act with integrity and serve with respect. To this end, starting in 2013-14, each student in grades 9, 10 and 11 will be required to participate in Darlington’s athletic and/or fine arts programs. 

 

Students who participate in the school’s year-round academies or music conservatory already meet this commitment. Those not involved in these programs or who participate in GHSA athletics or our after-school fine arts endeavors will be required to participate in two separate group activities during the school year. At the start of the year, students will be required to sign up for two activities of their choice. Exceptions to the policy will be handled on an individual basis through the Student Life Office. Students are expected to communicate directly with their program director when they must miss their commitment and with the Student Life Office if they switch after-school programs. 

 

When a student is not participating in one of our many extracurricular activities, it is Darlington’s hope that he or she will spend afternoons preparing for academic endeavors or participating in the school’s Servant Leadership program. Please note that all students are required to complete 15 hours of community service each year. Students may meet this requirement by participating in school-sponsored servant leadership opportunities after school and on weekends. They may also accumulate hours of service through non-school-related opportunities as long as they provide documentation from the organization served.
