Lower Grades Academics
Introducing new challenges while keeping curiosity alive.
In Darlington’s lower grades, we nurture each child’s natural curiosity and foster a love of learning through exploration, creativity, and meaningful connection. Students are encouraged to discover their unique strengths while building confidence, collaboration skills, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
Active, hands-on learning is woven throughout the experience, with exploratory classes, STEM activities, MakerSpace projects, and purposeful play encouraging students to investigate, create, and problem-solve. Students also enjoy a well-rounded curriculum that includes art, music, Spanish, math, science, language arts, and regular library visits.
With all lower grades teachers and teaching assistants trained as Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educators, students receive thoughtful, research-based support as they develop foundational skills. Technology enhances learning through the use of iPads for collaboration and creativity, preparing students to enter middle grades with confidence, curiosity, and a passion for discovery.
Lower Grades Exploratory
Exploratory is a favorite part the schedule for our third- through fifth-graders! They have opportunities to join together as a community and explore new topics with hands-on experiences. They may study weather patterns through art and science or learn about current events through STEM activities and even dance parties.
Every day is full of discovery.
