You Are Invited to Parents Weekend

Today, your sons and daughters are finishing their fifth full week of the school year. They have been to their first Darlington athletic events, attended their first dance of the year, and in classes they have taken their first tests and written their first papers.
For many of our students, these ‘first’ at Darlington have allowed your child to experience their first success and for others these experiences have been your child’s first opportunity to deal with adversity. Either way, your sons and daughters are learning how to handle these events in their lives on their own and this is a milestone in their lives. As a school, we pride ourselves on teaching our students the skills that will prepare them for life after Darlington.
Now that our students are mastering their daily routines, our residential faculty are empowering your child during evening study hall by teaching them study skills and habits that will help them learn with passion. Our athletic coaches and after-school activity sponsors – during practices, games, meetings and through servant leadership – are instilling in them the values of serving with respect. And all of us, through our daily interactions, are teaching them to put “Honor Above Everything.”
With the completion of each day of the school year, we hope that your children are learning the skills and values that will help them not just in their days as Darlington students, but that we are instilling in them tools that will help them in all of their future endeavors. As the days on the calendar seem to fly by, we want to do all that we can to ensure that your child is making the most of his or her days here at Darlington and we want you and your family to be able to experience their successes with them.
I would like to personally invite you to our campus for Parents Weekend Oct. 6-9. During these four days, you will have the opportunity to meet with the faculty members who work with your student each and every day, meet the student life team, and interact with current students and their families, as well as the larger Darlington Community.
The schedule of events for the weekend is detailed below:
Thursday, Oct. 6
6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Parent - Teacher Conferences and Coffee and Dessert, sponsored by Tiger PRIDE in Dodd Banquet Room. (Conferences can be arranged by contacting your child’s teachers directly.)
8:30 p.m. Homecoming Bonfire, sponsored by the Athletic Boosters (Huffman Athletic Center)
Friday, Oct. 7
9 – 10 a.m. College Planning Seminar (Dodd Banquet Room, Upper School)
10 – 11 a.m. Campus Tours by Heads of House
11 a.m. – Noon Q & A with Heads of House (in individual Houses)
Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch, all students and parents welcome (Chapel Lawn)
Noon – 4 p.m. Fall for the Arts Festival (Thatcher Hall Lawn, Middle School)
Dinner – Students may go off campus with their families. Dodd Dining Hall will be open for students who remain on campus.
7:30 p.m. Boys' Varsity Football vs. Mt. Zion (Chris Hunter Stadium, Huffman Athletic Center)
Saturday, Oct. 8
All Day – Athletic and fine arts performances per the School Calendar.
8 – 10 a.m. Workout (Weight Room, Huffman Athletic Center)
8:30 a.m. Run with PRIDE 5K and Fun Run (Morgan Pavilion, Middle School, register at www.darlingtonschool.org/5K).
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fall for the Arts Display – featuring alumni and student artwork (Ledbetter Commons, Thatcher Hall, Middle School)
11 a.m. – Noon Town Hall Meeting (Johnson Assembly and Dining Room, Thatcher Hall, Middle School)
Noon Cookout – featuring entertainment by student instrumentalists (Chapel Lawn)
Dinner – Students may go off campus with their families. Dodd Dining Hall will be open for students who remain on campus.
8 – 11 p.m. Upper School Homecoming Dance (Yankee Wrestling Room, Huffman Athletic Center)
8 – 10 p.m. Residential Parent Reception (Scott House, Upper School, RSVP to mpeer@darlingtonschool.org).
Sunday, Oct. 9
11 a.m. Service of Remembrance (Morris Chapel)
Noon Heritage Society Luncheon (Dodd Banquet Room, Upper School)
2 p.m. One-Act Play (Zelle Building, Upper School)
