"Y" Cabinet collects 6,500 can-a-thon items

In the annual Can-a-thon, the "Y" Cabinet collected over 6,500 cans from students and faculty, 2,200 more cans than last year’s event. The items were taken to the soup kitchen at First Presbyterian Church of Rome, where they were distributed the week before Thanksgiving.
Darlington’s can-a-thon provides the food to the soup kitchen, and then students from Saint Mary’s Catholic School, Rome, Ga., help bag the items for the church to distribute throughout the community. “This event is very special because it gives each member of the Darlington community the chance to share with those that are less fortunate,” said Sarah Rhodes, senior and "Y"Cabinet co-president. “It helps each of us realize our many blessings.”
Students from the Griffeth house collected the most cans, and were rewarded by a week of stucco days during exams. Stucco days are special occasions when students can pay or earn the privilege to dress outside of the School's dress code.
