World cultures learn about religions

With the religious holidays approaching, the world cultures class is focusing on the three major world religions that originated in the Middle East: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. “I think this year Islam, the politics of the Middle East, and the decisions which have led to today's crisis will be of greatest interest,” said Betsy Awsumb, world cultures teacher.
Students will be reading both about the religions and also the primary source materials and scriptures that demonstrate the teachings of each religion. Guest speakers have been invited to give lectures, and videos showing worship practices, interviews with religious leaders, and arts of each religious culture will be shown. Each student will also research environmental, economic, political, and human rights issues.
