Wong No. 1 at Ocala Winter II Horse Trials

Junior Kat Wong has been working with horses on her Aunt Ann’s farm since she was little, so it was only natural that she would find an interest in eventing.
In 2003, Wong participated in her first eventing competition at Stonehill Horse Trial in Canada, placing second in the entry division. Since then, she has been hooked, currently training five days per week at Moonlight Stables and Equestrian Center.
“I usually compete every other weekend, depending on the season,” said Wong, who currently competes as a beginner novice. “To be a successful eventer, one must be hard-working, dedicated and have the support of a good teacher, friends and family, and, most importantly, a willing and eager equine teammate.”
In February, Wong placed first in her division at the Ocala Winter II Horse Trials in Ocala, Fla., and second at Poplar Place Farm Horse Trials in Hamilton, Ga.
“It felt really great to win,” she said. “It was so incredible to feel the pay off of hard work and dedication. I have been riding my whole life, and now I feel very fortunate to be able to compete successfully.”
Some of Wong’s other riding accomplishments have included placing second in the entry division at Peter Gray and Paul Delbrooke’s event at Stonehill Horse Trial in 2003; placing seventh in the pre-training division at Headwaters Horse Trial; placing sixth in the junior beginner novice division at Pine Mountain Horse Trials at Big Bear in 2005; and placing second in the training division at Stonehill Horse Trials in 2005.
“I hope to continue this sport through college because it is what I am passionate about,” said Wong. “I believe you should never give up on the things you have passion for; dreams should always be pursued.”
