Winter Musical: A Special Thing

As I write this, there is just over a week before Darlington's winter musical opens at the City Auditorium. But I'm already too excited to sleep through the night. I have been blessed with so many incredible opportunities this year. Being a part of the winter musical has got to be one of the highlights. Here are just a few reasons why:
Every day after school, I get a front row seat to watch our students perform. They sing. They dance. They act. And I get free tickets.
I get to see students problem-solve, and create, and discover. I get to see them grow; both as performers and as people. And again, I get free tickets.
I get to work alongside a truly marvelous production staff that has been consistently patient with me from the start (I'm the new guy). They teach me. They inspire me. They make me laugh. And I get complimentary tickets.
I get to see our Darlington Community come together. Parents and friends volunteer their time and their energy. Coaches sacrifice to share their students. Alumni come back to stay connected and see what the school is up to this time around. And for me to see all this? I pay zero dollars.
Every day, fellow teachers pass me in the dining hall and ask, "How's the musical going?" Students knock on my office door and ask how they can get involved during tech week. My dog, Beans, is always eager to hear how rehearsal went when I get home at night. Because of everyone directly involved in the musical, and the many more people that support it in a myriad of ways, I have felt so embraced by the Darlington family. I have a home here, and that is an awesome ticket to have. Free, btw.
