What's Next--Why Not Darlington's Lower School?

*LCD projectors and SMART Boards are used daily in every classroom, involving the students actively in the curriculum;

*A standards-based, spiraling curriculum is used in both Reading Literacy and HSP math, encouraging creative and critical thinking, as well as problem solving;

*Writing is emphasized beginning in Pre-K, and grades 1-4 participate in the Darlington Writes Program, an exercise assessed according to an SAT Preparation Rubric;

*Technology and computer literacy are integrated into the curriculum daily, including an iPad program for fourth-graders;

*Strings instruction is offered weekly students in grades 1-4 by a Juilliard graduate, who is also a professional cellist ;

*Choral and Orf Instrument instruction, as well as music appreciation and performance, are taught weekly to all students by a teacher with her degree in music education;

*Character education is taught and practiced daily through a prescribed program, as well as “teachable moments;"

*Judeo-Christian ideals are nurtured and all cultures and beliefs are honored and respected;

*Spanish is taught biweekly to all grade levels by a teacher with a BS degree in Spanish, as she
    emphasizes vocabulary and culture of Spanish speaking countries;

*Art is attended by all students twice a week and involves various media instruction, including paint, clay, pencil, recycled material, and more. Elements and principles of design are taught by a degreed artist to guide technique and creativity;

*Pre-First Grade is available to enhance success and provide an extra “layer” of learning and confidence before first grade;

*A vibrant, supportive parent organization includes all families and contributes to the experience and breadth of the children’s education;

* A safe environment created by caring educators assures students of security and community;

*High expectations build self-confidence and self-esteem academically, socially, and ethically;

*Teachers encourage accelerated academics, critical thinking, organization, time management, responsibility, and accountability.
