What if My Child is Offered a Place on a College's Wait List?

If your son or daughter is offered a place on a college's wait list, this means that he or she has met the standards for admission, but that there are simply not enough spaces for all qualified applicants.

It's OK to remain on more than one college’s wait list, and to deposit at another school to which he or she has been accepted. It’s also OK to decline the college’s offer of being placed on the wait list if your son or daughter is already satisfied with his or her college choice.

If an offer to be admitted from the wait list comes through, your child must must write to the college to which he or she deposited and to any other college(s) on whose wait list he or she remains and withdraw. When communicating with the college, students should send the return card as well as a personal note.
