What I Love Most About Darlington’s Magical Campus

When you think of school, you think of boring, dull classrooms, gray halls, and sidewalks with no scenery.

The school environment is different at Darlington; there is nature everywhere. You can enjoy the walkways to class and the beautiful pond. I love seeing my friends at school, but it is a bonus to go to school in such a wonderful outdoor area.

My favorite walk on campus is from advisory to fitness class. I love walking in the early morning, past the chapel and down to the stream. As I step on the grass, covered in a thin layer of fresh morning dew, sounds of birds chirping in the trees reach my ear. The mornings are cooler than the hot blazing afternoon.

On my way over to the Huffman Center I often stop on the small wood bridge over the stream, and I keep my eye out for small minnows darting back and forth in the water. Sometimes I don't even go by way of the bridge; I take a different path and jump from rock to rock expertly avoiding the water. Once in awhile, I will see a big bass swimming in the deeper part of the stream.

I usually run down the hill and through the tunnel. If no one is around, I will yell to hear my voice echo off the hard concrete tunnel walls. It makes me smile every time I do it. When I emerge out onto the other side of the dark, dimly lit tunnel, I see something amazing. I see the bright morning sun shine brightly on our new turf field. I soon get lost in my thoughts of playing on the field.

Another special place on campus for me is the pond. Many hours of my time have been spent fishing and looking for turtles there. My favorite part of the pond is the little point that is opposite the flag pole. Sometimes I spend my time sitting in the tree and watching the turtles bask in the sunlight like the glorious beasts that they are. When I fish there, I pray that I will catch the big bass that sits by the water pipe by the bell tower.

It is places like the stream and the pond that make me realize that Darlington is special and that I am lucky to attend a high school that is different from others schools.
