Welcome to 133 New Alumni
By Vicki (Slauson) Vincent - FF/S
Darlington held our 105th Commencement last weekend where we welcomed 133 new alumni into the fold. It was a stunning day and, according to Headmaster Tom Whitworth, the thirteenth Commencement without rain! As I listened to the speeches and watched all the pomp and circumstance, it occurred to me that this really is a special place.
History teacher and Commencement speaker Brian Inman charged the seniors to remember the relationships. He told them when they return for their 50th reunion in 2060, none of their favorite faculty members would still be here, but that the memories and the influence these people had on their lives would still be felt.
Many of our alumni will be returning to campus this Oct. 15-17 for their class reunions. As they step back on this campus, many for the first time since their graduations 15, 25, or 50 years ago, I wonder which former faculty name will come to mind? Who made a lasting impact on their lives? What Darlington relationships are vivid in their memories?
We hope you will join us on campus this fall for Alumni Weekend. This will be Homecoming for our newest alumni from the Class of 2010, and we will be clebrating reunions for those classes ending in 0 and 5. There is something special about this place, and when you step back on this campus you will surly feel it!
