Volunteers raise $154,000 during Phonathon Week

Volunteers for this year’s Fall Phonathon Week raised a total of $154,020 from 262 donors for the 2006-07 Annual Fund. This year’s campaign goal is $1.5 million.
Four phonathons were held Sept. 25-28 in the Advancement Office.
“We aimed to raise $150,000 at phonathons this week, and with the help of 20 alumni and parent volunteers we exceeded our goal,” said Brooks Mathis, Annual Fund gifts officer. “We couldn’t have done it without their strong leadership and dedication to Darlington.”
According to Mathis, the Sept. 27 event was the most successful phonathon in Darlington history, raising $56,645.
This week’s phonathon volunteers included Allison Brooks (’79), Richard (’75) and Jill Burton (’75), Gin Gunther (’71), Peter Hjort, David Hortman (’77), Jim Hunter (’75), Wright Ledbetter (’85), Brian McWhorter, Chason (’78) and Kathy Mull (’78), Tom Shea, David (’61) and Nancy Smith, Jo Stegall (’76), Liz Tierney, Ed Watters (’83), Joe Watters (’80), Barry Wright (’70) and Gardner Wright (’46).
“I’d like to thank each one of these people for their tremendous efforts on Darlington’s behalf,” said Mathis. “With this type of momentum and energy early on in the campaign, there are no limits to what we can accomplish this year.”
Also this week, the Lower School became the first to reach 100-percent participation among faculty and staff. Together, they raised over $4,100 for the Annual Fund.
“I want to give a special thanks to Beth Smith (’87) for heading up a great effort at the Lower School,” said Mathis. “These teachers have now set the precedent for faculty giving. The Middle School is not far behind with 99-percent participation.”
