Varsity teams wrap up record breaking season

Boys varsity cross country finished an undefeated regular season with a fourth-place finish at the State championship, after having already captured the Regional title.

Girls varsity softball ended the season 3–9, with big wins over Mt. Zion, Model, and Armuchee.

Girls varsity volleyball set a new school record for victories in a season with its 21–17 record, eclipsing the old mark of 13 wins. This historic season ended with a fourth–place finish at the 6AA Region tournament.

Boys varsity football finished 7–3 under new head coach Tommy Atha. The team featured mostly underclassmen talent, a positive indicator for a great season this fall. Girls varsity basketball closed out the year at 16–9, finishing a strong season where senior Meggie Beth Erwin surpassed the 1,000 career points mark.

Boys varsity basketball finished the season at 13–13 and fared well against nearby rivals, posting a 7–5 regional record.

Girls varsity swim/dive did not win any meets this year, but that did not deter them from pulling in several strong second and third–place finishes.

Boys varsity swim/dive ended the season with a 2–4 record, with each of the four losses being second–place finishes.

Boys varsity wrestling finished at 16–10 in a remarkable season that featured a road trip out to Texas for a competition and a fifth–place performance at the Area tournament.

Girls varsity golf finished with a record of 4–1, successfully defending the Regional title, but suffering a heartbreaking one–stroke loss at the 6AA State championship.

Boys varsity golf ended its 9–1 season with a victory at the Region tournament. Along the way, the squad also won the Whitepath Invitational, the Rome City/Floyd County, and the Sunset Hills tournaments.

Girls varsity lacrosse finished with a 7–5–1 record, with the highlight being a huge 11–4 win over Walton, where Leslie Beninato racked up a season–high 21 saves.

Boys varsity lacrosse advanced deep into the playoffs, reaching into the third round before being ousted. This followed a 12–6 regular season.

Girls varsity soccer had one of its best years ever, finishing 14–4–1 and breaking the school record for goals in a season. Rachel Wiggins also set new marks in career goals and single season goals, leading the team to a Region title.

Boys varsity soccer ended the year with a 5–8 record, but was very successful in regional match–ups, finishing 4–3.

Girls varsity tennis finished 11–8, reaching the Regional finals and advancing to the second round at the State championship tournament.

Boys varsity tennis coasted to a perfect 7–0 Regional record, 13–7 overall, advancing to the second round of the State championship tournament.

Boys varsity track and field had a strong season, racking up six second–place finishes, including the 6AA Region championship, and sending ten competitors to the State track meet.

Girls varsity track and field finished fifth in the State in a season that included a second–place finish at Region and a new school record in the 3200 meter run, set by senior Kirby Cross.

Girls varsity cross country placed third at State, behind a 6–1 season that included the Regional championship title.
