Varsity cross country teams sweep Darlington Festival

The 9th Annual Darlington Cross Country Festival featured 11 races and close to 2000 runners. The boys' and girls' varsity cross country teams both claimed victory in the Class 1A-2A Races. In addition to high school races, there were also middle school, elementary, and open competitions.
The varsity girls were led once again by Sophomore Kinslee Clevenger, who won the individual championship. Clevenger led start to finish and won by an impressive 35 seconds; and finished with a personal record (PR) time of 20:01. The girls won the meet by large margin with a score of 36. Mount Pisgah and Holy Innocents' tied for 2nd with a score of 97.
The girls had three top-10 finishers. Lauren Hooper also claimed an individual trophy in 3rd (20:44) and Anna Cantrell finished 7th (21:40). Bethany Cagle (13th, 22:01) and Abby Cantrell (14th, 22:01) also medaled with top-20 finishes. Kinslee and Anna were named Darlington's female runners of the week for their performances. Abby Cantrell, Lovisa Clausen (25:33), and Katie Hutchins (25:35) all also ran PRs in the varsity girls race.
The boys also won the meet by a large margin; 47 to Holy Innocents' 84. The boys once again benefitted from a tight pack, with a 1-5 split of 42 seconds, the best of any team male or female in the entire Festival. The boys' top-5 all medaled by placing in the top-20: Spencer Fields (7th, 17:22), Andrew Hudson (9th, 17:35), Alex Cox (10th, 17:36), Avery Cypress (11th, 17:37) and Chris Edwards (15th, 18:04). Fields, Cox, and Edwards all ran PRs. Also running PRs in the varsity race were Wes Andrews (18:56) and Trammell Braden (18:58) breaking 19 minutes for the first time, and Dylan Paracka (19:51) and Parker Robinson (19:55) breaking 20 minutes for the first time.
Juliann Baker led the girls' JV squad, as she medaled with a 13th place finish (23:24, a PR). Also running PR's for the JV girls were Hope Roberson (24:44), Lindsey Vaughn (28:07), Jessica Mauer (28:22), and Suzannah Peek (30:38).
The boys' JV team was led by Drew Finley, who PR'ed by 2 minutes with a 21:23. He and Paracka were named Darlington's male runners of the meet for their large improvements. Also running PR's in the JV race were Ivy Brandon (21:42), Du Zhang (21:44), Carlos Carrillo (22:10), Lawson Sumner (22:43), Joe Fang (23:01), Nicolas Burgess (24:56), Eli Alewel (25:02), and Adam Daniel (25:04).
