Varsity Cross Country Teams Run Well at Berry Invitational

The girls and boys cross country teams ran well at the Berry Invitational, finishing 6th and 9th respectively of around 40 teams in the Class 1A-4A races. The Berry Invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the Southeast and features teams from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida.
Leading the way for the girls' varsity team were sophomores Kinslee Clevenger (12th, 21:20) and Lauren Hooper (16th, 21:28). Both received t-shirts for placing the top 20. The girls' top-5 was rounded out by juniors Anna Cantrell (43rd), Bethany Cagle (44th), and freshman Abby Cantrell (69th), competing in her first high school meet.
The girls team had PRs from two competitors: Juliann Baker (25th in the JV race) and Hope Roberson. Hope Roberson was named Darlington's female runner of the meet for her performance and improvement.
The boys' team was led by sophomore Spencer Fields (37th, 18:06), who finished first on Darlington's team for the first time in his career. He was named Darlington's male runner of the meet for his outstanding race, bettering his 2011 Berry time by 1 minute.
The boys' top 5 was completed by Avery Cypress, Jared Deaton, Alex Cox, and Chris Edwards. Coulter Schrum finished 6th on Darlington's team, breaking the 20-minute barrier for the first time with a 19:57. He was the first of three boys to run PRs, followed by Wes Andrews and Parker Robinson.
