Varsity cross country teams place high in Macon

The varsity boys' and girls' cross country teams traveled to Macon over the weekend for the first time ever to run the new Class A State Championship course. They excelled and brought home two 3rd place trophies in the 25-team field.
First Presbyterian Day School and Warner Robins High School co-hosted the Run Wild Meet at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home. The field consisted of primarily Class A schools also visiting Macon for the first time, but local higher classification schools also competed.
The varsity girls were led by sophomore Kinslee Clevenger, running what was probably her best 5K ever. She bettered her personal record (PR) from 2011 by 50 seconds, and also ran 57 seconds faster than she had run in 2012. She was the only Darlington runner to medal, taking 8th. Clevenger was named Darlington's female runner of the meet for her performance.
The girls' top-5 was rounded out by Lauren Hooper (12th, 21:00), Anna Cantrell (30th, 22:10), Bethany Cagle (32nd, 22:13), and Abby Cantrell (48th, 22:45). Abby Cantrell was the only other female runner for Darlington to PR.
The varsity boys were led by Spencer Fields, who PR'ed with a 17:46 (17th), his first time under 18 minutes for a 5K this season. He was followed closely by Avery Cypress (25th, 17:55) and Andrew Hudson (27th, 17:59). Completing the boys top-5 was Alex Cox (31st, 18:07) and Chris Edwards (46th, 18:28).
Also running PR's for the boys were Coulter Schrum (19:03) and Wes Andrews (19:37). Schrum was named Darlington's male runner of the week for his 47-second improvement since last week.
