Varsity Basketball Preview

Boys
A season for rebuilding? Considering that the boys’ varsity basketball team is less four starters from last year’s 17-7, there is that mindset however, Jim Van Es, head varsity basketball coach, believes that this year’s athletes will be very competitive and will improve as the season progresses. “We do have a young and somewhat inexperienced team, but the team chemistry and work ethic are things that will help us compete in a very difficult region,” Van Es said. Returning from last year’s team are seniors Scott Foss, Ryan Fox, and Adam Moy and juniors Michael Glanton and Frank Stegall. Newcomers are juniors Tom Arnold, Porter Leslie, and Henry Rodriguez, senior Kent Harrison, freshman Chantz McClinic, and sophomore Scott Poley.
Girls
The girls varsity basketball team is anticipating a strong season with new Head Varsity Coach Angie Milford at the reign. Milford takes over the varsity girls team as Darlington begins competition in a tough 6-AA region. The team is young with only two seniors (Rebecca Rhodes and Clara Smith), but according to Milford, there is a handful of young talent, “We’re taking steps forward to building a strong program. The next few years of Lady Tiger basketball should be exciting to watch,” Milford said.
