Upper School presents “Eternal Faith, Eternal People”

Darlington Upper School presented “Eternal Faith, Eternal People,” featuring the Concert Choir and Ladies’ and Men’s Chorale, Sunday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m. in Morris Chapel.
“This year’s concert was planned to coincide with the campus-wide reading of the book ‘All But My Life,’ written by Gerda Weissman Klein,” said Dan Bishop, choral director and chairman of the fine arts department. “All of the musical selections were from the Hebrew tradition, or have been written by Jewish composers such as Leonard Bernstein and Ernest Bloch. This concert was one of the most memorable held in the Morris Chapel.”
The Ladies’ Chorale performed Nira Chen’s “Dodi Li,” arranged by Doreen Rao; Joan C. Varner’s “When I Am Silent” and Moses Hogan’s “I Am His Child.” The Men’s Chorale followed, with “Zum Gali Gali,” an Israeli Folk Song; “Bashana Haba’Ah” and Allan E. Naplan’s “Hine Ma Tov.” The Concert Choir then performed Naplan’s “Al Shlosha D’Varim,” Leonard Bernstein’s “Sanctus from ‘Mass’” and Ernest Bloch’s “Sanctification from ‘Sacred Service.’”
The concert concluded with Joan Beckow’s “Oseh Shalom,” performed by combined choirs.
The choirs were accompanied by Kim Tunnell and Joan Hill.
