  • Tom Sorci, learning center director, contributed to the College Board’s video, ScoreWrite, an expanded version of the College Board Writing Service. Sorci says the video is helpful to those who wish to learn more about how standardized writing tests are scored.

  • Sibling Houses, Barnes and Griffeth, joined efforts to plan the first House-sponsored dance on Oct. 28. Student activity prefects planned and carried out the entire event – inception to completion – from an Upper School T-shirt design competition to decorating, arranging for entertainment, and obtaining refreshments.

  • Science department Chair Mark Alber has been selected as a State Finalist for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) Program. According the Janice Earle, Presidential Award Program’s senior program director, this selection places Alber among the nation’s most outstanding teachers in mathematics and science.

  • Senior Harris York and freshman Sanders Wallis received Eagle Scout Awards, during a ceremony on October 10, at First United Methodist Church of Rome.

  • Senior Lindsay Harbin earned the Noon Optimist Student of the Month award for September. Senior Rebecca Rhodes received the Student of the Month distinction for October.
