Upper and Lower School choral groups perform

The Ladies’ and Men’s Chorales along with the Middle School Chorus presented a concert Sunday, March 26 at 4 p.m. in Morris Chapel.
The Ladies Chorale portion of the concert was titled “Magical Kingdom,” and featured songs from favorite animated motion pictures such as “Magical Kingdom” (Rutter), “Part of Your World” (Eilers) from “The Little Mermaid;” “Beauty and the Beast” (Huff) from the movie of the same title, “Journey to the Past” (Chinn) from “Anastasia” and “God Help the Outcasts” (Snyder) from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
The Men’s Chorale presented “Songs of the Sea,” which highlighted songs about man’s love/hate relationship with the sea. Featured songs include “Come Sail Away with Me” (Patterson), “Sea Fever” (Porterfield), “A Whistlin’ Shanty (Jeffers), “I’m Bound Away” (Moore) and “Music of the Sea” (Lightfoot).
“The Ladies’ and Men’s Chorales have made quite a musical journey from their first appearance in concert last fall,” said Dan Bishop, choral director and chairman of the fine arts department. “Both groups have grown musically and vocally. The audience was pleasantly surprised as to how much they have improved and matured over these past few months. I am most proud of their accomplishments.”
The Middle School Chorus performed the songs they prepared for their tour to Orlando, Fla., which departed the following week. Selections included “Welcome Spring” (Beck), “Inscription of Hope” (Stroope), “Alleluia” (Harris), “How Can I Keep From Singing?” (Gilpin) and “American Folk Rhapsody” (Spevacek).
“This concert was an opportunity for the Middle School Chorus to perform in preparation for Festival Disney,” said Kim Tunnell, Middle School choral director. “This group of 56 singers worked very hard over the last several months to get ready for this event, and I am excited about their enthusiasm for singing.”
