Two scouts join Eagle ranks

Senior Ian McKenzie and junior Thomas Sipp Jr. earned their Eagle Scout Awards on March 21. Both are members of Troop 4.
In order to achieve this honor, scouts must receive 21 merit badges and carry out a community service project. Both boys chose to do their projects at Westminster Presbyterian Church. McKenzie built an outdoor chapel, and Sipp renovated and refurbished the middle school youth room.
The Eagle Scout Award is the highest and most coveted rank of scouting, the last major step in the advancement program. Less than five percent of all scouts in the United States reach the Eagle rank, according to the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. An estimated 1.7 million scouts have earned the rank since 1912.
