Two place in top five of Congressional Art Competition

Junior Callee Manna and sophomore Hannah Harper were awarded second and fifth place, respectively, in the 14th District Congressional Art Competition.
Manna entered a charcoal reduction titled "Swan," while Harper entered a digital photograph titled "Soda Pop Water."
"This year, schools were not limited in the number of entries but students could enter only one work each," explained art teacher Kathy O'Mara. "Out of the 42 total entries in our district, the top five were chosen by judges from the Creative Arts Guild of Dalton. Our students earned two of these slots!"
Other schools represented in the top five were Sonoraville High School (first place), Georgia Cyber Academy (third place) and North Murray High School (fourth place). The local congressional office will display their work until mid-May.
"It's so wonderful that two of our students were honored," O'Mara said. "I'm so proud of Callee and Hannah!"
The annual Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity for high school artists to showcase their talent around the district and at the U.S. Capitol. Since 1982, nearly 650,000 students have participated. The winner is eligible to receive a $3,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design and will be featured alongside entries from other congressional districts in the U.S. Capitol Building.
