Two named to All-Area Basketball Team

After a very successful season that included a 21-5 record, a top-ten state ranking, a Holiday Festival title and a Region 6-AA championship, juniors Corey Roper and Shawn Powell have been named to the Rome News-Tribune's 2006 All-Area Basketball Team.
Roper is the son of Levi and Frankie Roper of Rome. Averaging 24 points and 4.7 assists per game, he shot 44 percent from 3-point range. Roper was named Rome News-Tribune Player of the Year, made the Georgia Sports Writers Association All-State list as an honorable mention, and was named Northwest Georgia Tip-Off Club Player of the Year.
Powell is the son of Larry Powell of Rome and Kellie Powell of Inverness, Fla. Averaging almost 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, he was the MVP fo the Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival and an all-region selection.
All-Area Honorable Mentions included senior Greg Phillips of Rome, senior Brittni Dulaney of Rome, senior Emily Hendrickson of Maysville, Ky., and senior Brooke Wetherington of Rome.
